West Virginia Hunters Harvest 1,126 Fall Turkeys in 2010 - Feb. 09, 2011
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Preliminary figures for the 2010 fall turkey hunting season show a harvest of 1,126 turkeys, according to Paul Johansen, Assistant Chief in Charge of Game Management for the Wildlife Resources Section of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources. The 2010 harvest was seven percent lower than the 1,208 birds checked in during the 2009 fall season.

2009 West Virginia Fall Turkey Harvest Increases - Jan. 14, 2010
Preliminary figures for the 2009 fall turkey hunting season show a harvest of 1,244 turkeys. This is slightly higher than the 1,206 turkeys checked in during the 2008 fall season. The eastern Mountain Region of the state reported a fall turkey harvest increase, with District 3 mountain counties up 16 percent and District 4 mountain counties up 20 percent. The fall turkey harvest declined 10 percent in the northern counties of District 1 and declined 15 percent in the eastern panhandle counties of District 2. The top five counties for fall turkey harvests were Monroe (116), Nicholas (114), Greenbrier (99), Preston (82) and Mason (81).

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources predicts a slightly higher harvest of wild turkeys during the 2009 fall hunting season compared to the fall 2008 harvest of 1,206, according to Paul Johansen, Assistant Chief in Charge of Game Management for DNR. This prediction is based upon the increased number of turkey broods reported in July and field notes reported by cooperators in the 2009 West Virginia Mast Survey and Hunting Outlook.

2009 West Virginia Spring Gobbler Harvest Reported - Jun. 02, 2009
Preliminary figures indicate West Virginia hunters harvested 9,485 bearded turkeys statewide during the recently completed 2009 spring gobbler season. This year's spring harvest is approximately four percent below the 9,929 birds taken in 2008.
