New FWC quota process allows for guest permit - Jun. 05, 2009
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will be accepting applications until June 30 to be included in a random drawing for quota permits to hunt on Florida's wildlife management areas (WMAs) next season.

Delaware 2009 Spring Turkey Season Ends on a High Note - Jun. 03, 2009
The results are in: Delaware's 2009 spring turkey season which ended May 1 has set a new state harvest record of 313 birds, surpassing the previous state record of 249 birds taken in 2008. The 2009 season also marked the first time the DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife has designated a special day for children and disabled hunters ? April 4, when four birds were harvested.

Annapolis, Md. - Maryland hunters reported taking 2,910 wild turkeys during the 2009 spring turkey season, registering a 3 percent increase from the 2008 harvest of 2,833 turkeys.

Preliminary figures indicate West Virginia hunters harvested 9,485 bearded turkeys statewide during the recently completed 2009 spring gobbler season. This year's spring harvest is approximately four percent below the 9,929 birds taken in 2008.

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky's spring turkey hunters set a new state record this year. Hunters telechecked 29,006 birds during the 23-day season, which ended May 10. This surpassed the previous record of 28,797 birds in 2006.

INCIDENT:Hunting Related Shooting - May. 01, 2009
On 05/01/09 at approximately 0600 hours, State Game Wardens, State Police and Lyndon Rescue responded to a report of a hunting related shooting at the above location. The shooting took place on private property.

Other hunters who enjoy turkey hunting but also like to quail hunt may be wondering why turkey populations have surged in recent years while quail populations have declined in much of the state.
