On 05/01/09 at approximately 0600 hours, State Game Wardens, State Police and
Lyndon Rescue responded to a report of a hunting related shooting at the above
location. The shooting took place on private property.
Wheelock Fire Chief Mark Brown and Game Warden Dave Gregory were first to
arrive on scene and found Jacob Kadamus (17) suffering from a gunshot wound and
his father Kevin Kadamus (45) trying to render aid. CPR and rescue efforts
were undertaken; however, Jacob died at the scene due to his injuries.
Preliminary investigation has shown that both Jacob and Kevin Kadamus were
hunting turkeys on the property when Kevin discharged his shotgun at what he
believed to be a turkey, striking Jacob. Preliminary investigation revealed
that Jacob had left his original hunting area which was separate from Kevin's
area and crossed into Kevin's hunting area.
Game Wardens are processing the shooting scene and Detectives are continuing
the investigation in conjunction with the Wardens. At the conclusion of the
joint investigation, the case will be reviewed by the Caledonia County State's
Attorney. At this time, no charges have been filed. An autopsy will be
conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for final determination
of manner of death, findings pending.
