Hunters can now buy over-the-counter surplus permits for fall turkey in some hunting districts in western Montana.
In Missoula County (Hunting District 283), 51 permits are available, and in Ravalli County west of the Bitterroot River and north of Tin Cup Creek (HD 285), 347 permits are left. Eight permits are available in Mineral County (HD 282).
All permits are valid for an either-sex turkey from Sept.1, 2009-Jan 1, 2010. Permits are free, but hunters cannot possess any other fall turkey permits and must purchase a fall turkey license to use with one of these surplus permits.
Surplus permits can be purchased online at fwp.mt.gov or from any Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks license provider.
