PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Game Fish and Parks Commission will propose at its November meeting that several changes be made in the 2010 Spring Turkey Season.
The proposal calls for 220 more one-tag “male turkey” and 50 more two-tag “any turkey” licenses than 2009 for the Prairie Units. The proposal also calls for the elimination of split seasons in Deuel, Grant, and Hamlin Counties. All of those counties would have one season. Under the proposal, Jerauld County would now be open to statewide archery hunting. The Commission also will propose to change the end date of the spring turkey season from the third Sunday of May to eight days prior to Memorial Day. People who would like to provide written comments on the proposal may do so until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2. Comments may be mailed to: Game, Fish and Parks Commission, 523 E. Capitol Ave., Pierre, S.D., 57501, or e-mailed to wildinfo@state.sd.us. All comments must have senders’ full names and addresses in order to become part of the public record. Comments may also be presented in person at the Dec. 3 GFP Commission meeting in Pierre at the Ramkota Hotel, during the 2 p.m. CDT public hearing.
